User Defenders "The Interactioneer" Josh Tucker

Josh Tucker shares with us the importance of determination and resolve when building whatever it is you desire to build. He also stresses the importance of knowing everything you possibly can about your users and designing experiences that delight them and improve their lives.

Josh Tucker (The Interactioneer) is an Interactive Designer at Google and an insatiably curious prototyping innovator. He’s a master of one of my favorite prototyping tools “Framer.js” and is constantly experimenting with and documenting super-creative, out-of-the-box gestures and innovative UI solutions for users. He’s a very generous knowledge contributor to our great community, and in the time I’ve gotten to know him, just one heck of a friendly, smart and enthusiastic guy.

USE YOUR SUPERPOWER OF SUPPORT
Here’s your chance to use your superpower of support. Don’t rely on telepathy alone! If you’re enjoying the show, would you take two minutes and leave a rating and review on Apple Podcasts? I’d also be willing to remove my cloak of invisibility from your inbox if you’d subscribe to the newsletter for superguest announcements and more, occasionally.

THEME
Solve problems for your users and bring delight to their experiences. Stay hungry and don’t let anything get in the way of what you want to build.

TAKEAWAYS
Like a mad scientist, you get to test it on people. You’re not really mad if you’re attempting to learn something from your experiments vs. being in your lab trying to blow stuff up.

I really want to know my users from a personal level and begin to understand their characteristics, mannerisms, and behaviors on the most granular level. Once you can connect the dots there, the power of the interface skyrockets because you’re leveraging every minute thing that a person can do or what they understand or what they’re able to accomplish just in their own interaction with what you built.

FUTURE OF UX
User Experience will be defined by the users. Things will be so dynamic and connected to who you are as a person that the experience people have with what you’ve created will be solely their own.

BEST ADVICE
When you are faced with any bump in the road on your career or as specific as something you’re working on. If you bump into something that you’re stuck on. Skip it over if you need to, but don’t let it disappear. There were things that I did not know how to do but I didn’t compromise on the experience because I didn’t know how to do it. I just chose to buckle down and spend any time required to learn what I needed to learn to make it right. Never table what your original idea was because you can reveal new and great things through anything that you throw away. The idea that there’s a diamond in the rough. There’s always something there. Maybe you don’t have the time to work on it right then and there, but put it in your knapsack if you will and any opportunity that you have, revisit it.
